Hydrochlorthiazide (HCTZ)
Hydrochlorthiazide is a diuretic that increase the flow of urine and helps body get rid of excess water. It increases elimination of sodium and chloride in equal amounts from the body. It is used for the management of hypertension. It is used as an add-on therapy in edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and corticosteroid and estrogen therapy.
Do not take hydrochlorthiazide if you:
- Suffer from severe liver or renal impairment
- Are allergic to hydrochlorthiazide
- Are taking any other medicines to reduce blood pressure
Things to Tell Your Doctor. If you:
- Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant
- Are unable to urinate
- Are suffering from gout
What to do if you missed a dose ?
Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten doses. If you only remember during the night, or the next day, leave out the missed dose and carry on as usual.
Most common side effects ?
The most common side effects observed with hydrochlorthiazide are vertigo, dizziness, vomiting, rash, abnormally low blood pressure, ion imbalance.
