Amikacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of medicines called aminoglycosides. The drug is used to treat serious infections caused by certain bacteria. Amikacin acts by binding to 30S ribosomal subunits of bacteria and thus inhibiting its protein synthesis leading the death of organism.
