Amantadine is a dopaminergic drug that can increases the levels of certain chemicals which transmit impulses in the nervous system, including the brain. It modifies dopamine release and re-uptake.
Amantadine is used to treat Parkinson’s disease and in the treatment of shingles (herpes zoster), to reduce pain. As an antiviral drug, it act by inhibiting the replication of influenza type A virus.
