Skin: Skin rash and allergies, Hives
Immune system disorders: Anaphylactic reaction, Drug allergic reaction
Digestive tract: Nausea and vomiting, Diarrhoea, Stomach and mouth ulceration
Respiratory tract: Coughing, Chest tightness or pain, Whistling sound while taking breath, Respiratory arrest
Hematological: Low platelet count, Abnormal prothrombin time
Liver: Abnormal liver function test results
Heart: Cardiac arrest, ECG abnormalities
Musculoskeletal: Joint pain
Miscellaneous: Fever, Malaise, Facial or eye pain, Faint, Low blood pressure, Blurred vision, Anxiety, Seizures, Low level of potassium
Drug Overdose
There is a risk of hepatic encephalopathy. Over dosage with acetylcysteine has shown the effects similar to the anaphylactoid reactions and other side effects listed above, but they may be severe. In such instances, general supportive steps should be carried out. Reactions are managed with antihistamines and steroids.There is no specific antidote.
