Acetylcysteine is available in form of lozenges, tablets, capsules, eye drops and injections.
Oral
Mucolytic
Adult: 200 mg three times a day
Child (2-7 year): 200 mg twice daily
(<2 year): 200 mg daily
Paracetamol poisoning
Adult: After gastric lavage or induction of vomiting, administer loading dose of 140 mg per kg body weight, followed by maintenance doses of 70 mg per kg body weight. First maintenance dose should be given 4 hours after the loading dose. Continue treatment until paracetamol levels is not detectable and there is no evidence of liver toxicity.

Intravenous (Paracetamol poisoning)
Adult: Initially, 150 mg per kg body weight given over 15 minutes, followed by maintenance dose
Child: Initially, 150 mg per kg body weight given over 15 minutes, followed by maintenance dose
Ophthalmic
Dry eye associated with abnormal mucus production
Adult: Instill 1-2 drops of a 5% solution into the affected eye three to four times daily
