What is a stroke ?

Brain cell function requires oxygen and glucose from the bloodstream. A stroke, or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), occurs when blood supply to brain is interrupted. And due to this, brain cells die. This can lead to brain damage, and may possibly be fatal.

Stroke is one of the most leading cause of death & disability worldwide and the disease is on the rise. The increasing number of people with stroke can also be attributed to the increasing culture of junk food and easy lifestyles with no time for exercise.

What are the types of stroke ?

  1. Ischemic stroke - it happens when blood vessel supplying brain is blocked by a clot.

  1. Haemorrhagic stroke - a blood vessel wall is weakened and it bursts out causing blood leak in the brain

  1. TIA (transient ischemic stroke) - also known as mini-stroke. Blood supply to the brain is temporarily interrupted.
