Apart from you BP recording from the instrument (sphygmomanometer) with the process described in the introduction part, following play major role in diagnosing hypertension:

 

  • Family history of hypertension

 

  • Medical examination

 

  • Personal history of physical activity, alcohol consumption and smoking.

 

  • Tests to assess any organ failure – this includes tests for heart damage (ECG, Chest X-ray), for adrenal damage (ultrasound kidney, CT scan abdomen), kidney damage (serum creatinine, micro albuminuria)
