Famciclovir belongs to a group of medications called as antiviral drugs. Antivirals are medicines used in the treatment of infections caused by viruses. It is used to treat genital herpes - viral infection spread by sexual contact, shingles (chicken pox) and herpes zoster infections of the eye.

 

Genital herpes is a viral infection which is normally spread by sexual contact. It causes blisters and burning around your genitals, which may be painful. Famciclovir can also be used to prevent future attacks of genital herpes.

Genital herpes is a chronic condition that is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 or type 2. It is also referred to as a sexually transmitted infection as it can be passed on to others through intimate sexual contact. It is a common condition, especially between people aged 20-24 years.

Herpes Simplex is a skin disease caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus or HSV. It leads to the formation of blisters around the mouth, nose or genitals in an infected individual. It is an annoying condition mostly because it keeps recurring and these sores are sometimes painful and look bad. Herpes Simplex Virus are of two types - Type 1 and Type 2. They both lead you to develop cold sores but type 1 infects the skin around mouth or nose whereas the type 2 virus infects the region below waist.
