In a recently-concluded study which will be presented at the 64th annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology this April, women who have suffered and are still suffering from migraine headaches may just be at a higher risk for depression.

We have all heard about just how important sleep is not only for us physically, but for us to mentally and emotionally too.  A new Japanese study only further confirms that fact, proving that people who do not get a good night’s sleep are, on average, about twice as likely to suffer from depression down the road.

At least one study in Finland, published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, indicates that music may help people with depression. A small group of 79 people aged 18 to 50 participated in the study, and they all received the standard practice of counseling and appropriate medication. Of the 79 participants, 33 were also given 20 hour-long sessions twice a week with a trained music therapist.

Tricyclic antidepressants, which are the oldest class of antidepressants, have been found to increase the risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases by a recent study. The study comes from the University College London, the Medical Research Council Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in Glasgow, the University of Edinburgh and Vrije Universiteit in The Netherlands.  And it has been published in the European Heart Journal.
